Monday's (11/12/07) Entry
So....... a new day a new adventure. Well kind of a new adventure, LOL. I will post a pic late today (Tues) of the finally in primer AAR Dan Gurney/Swede Savage bodies. We had one of those rare rare rare cloudy days here in sunny AZ so I couldn't shoot any nice pics to post.
But like the Posey car it took some grinding and hammering with a little bondo to make them look correct and fit the wider tires under the wheel wells. Its funny that Ive been in this hobby for 10 years now.... owned a real body shop for 20 years before that and I still love the smell of Bondo, LOL. Im a sick sick man, LOL.
So as Ive stated I painted a few cars last week and while my plan was to clearcoat a couple of the simple, ad emblems and shoot cars, I choose to be a bum all weekend. So yesterday (Monday) I decide im going to shoot a couple with clear. Well..... upon review I was not 100% pleased with the colors on both the 05 Mustang and 67 Corvette. So...... whats a "fussy" guy do ? I repainted them of course. Actually there is a little trick to that. Since the cars already have 2-3 coats of color on them we don't want to glom (its a word in my world) up the paint so things won't open I use the dry spray dust method.
See you can mix the new color.... make it water thin..crank the pressure up to rocket launch and then blow a dust coat over the top. Even dust coating the cars shine due to how I mix my color and flip binders for single stage. With the bodies already shiny and smooth the dust coat lays down with no orange peel though still needs to be clearcoated.
So I got that done and had a GTO show up for a customer project and got that stripped and ready for paint. Also got the roof cut off a Black 71 Cuda for one of the Doughebag Brothers, LOL....... for his little project so things are moving along nicely.
Lastly, I did have a chance to discuss that cool project I was interested in doing and its a go so that will be fun. More on that as it progresses.
Im out..........
