Monday and the world of cars, big and small

So my thoughts yesterday morning were to report on my trip over the weekend to the Good-Guys show in Scottsdale but then I got a phone call and that was the end of that.

Well here we are Tuesday morning of Turkey Day week and I will reflect on my weekend and Monday. This again was a day that didn't provide much in the way of hands on work but still its part of the big picture.

First off..... Saturday, Scottsdale AZ, Good-Guys Southwest Nationals. If you have never been to a GG event you need to try and attend one. While this show isn't there largest just the site of some 3000+ cars does make a car guy feel like a 17 year old in a all girls locker room running nothing but cold water and holding all the towels, hehe. Cars cars cars, Hot Rods, Rat Rods, Stock, Muscle, things I cannot explain and even prototypes. As in the prototype of the Chrysler designed concept 2010 Cuda at the Barrett-Jackson booth.  For those who don't know im a diehard Mopar guy..... loved them since firing up my first, 69 Road Runner. So over the last 6 months I have seen no less than 3 Cuda prototypes....2 real ones....1 of those in person and the diecast version created by Robert James Concepts thats been in like 4 magazines.

My view on this is pretty simple...... Icon car of the Mopar world ? 71 Cuda..... 71 Hemi Cuda. This car used a one year only design for the headlights, grill, taillights, fender gills and is in all intense and purposes the most sought after and highest valued of all the Cudas. But instead of building that Chrysler builds the Challenger (and thank you for that at least and anyone wanting to donate to Johns Challenger Fund, LOL, I would appreciate large none traceable bills). Mind you it does make sense since Ma Mopar (Germans/Daimler) killed the Plymouth line. But come on.... the Cuda is the right car..... and the 71 is the Icon car.

Of the 3 cars I have seen....... including the Chrysler version I can honestly say the Robert James Concepts version is the most retro/new one to date. The styling cues include the quad lights, retro 71 grill, shaker hood, fender gills, FLOW THRU EXHAUST (not done on either of the real versions). Geese...... Challys have under valance exhaust.... Cudas had flow thru..... HTF (how the fuck) can the guys at Chrysler NOT GET THAT RIGHT. Ugh...... car people, there all whacked.

Speaking of whacked.....car people in general.....ya gotta love how people build there cars..... so many are so over the top its almost funny. I appreciate each and every one especially since I don't have one in my garage anymore (I miss Little Green, 72 Dodge Short bed, stripped of everything but its shell, fill roll cage, 4 link, Ford 9 inch rear, 440).

Anyway...so many innovative things to see.... and thats just the regular people. I did get to see the Boyd Coddington, 56 Chrysler 300 he built for Gary Meadors, Pres of Good Guys. Just a nice ARROW straight black repaint, some trim removed, clean simple red interior with a Hemi and custom Boyd Salt Flat style wheels. Then there was the 67 GTX..... full straight axle, air shock filled to the limit, bouncing around the grassy area 4 feet in the air where all the average cars where parked. Funny as hell.... weird as hell and just plain head shaking.

What else makes me laugh is the vendor area. Between the companies paying young girls in painted on shorts to the older cranky guys trying to eek out a living selling things popular in the 60's its just a fun experience in its self. Within a minute of stepping into the vendor tent we were greeted with offers of free vacations and chances to win just about everything. Stupid stupid stupid me I filled out one form for a fancy ass golf cart....... and WTF do I need a golf cart for ???... Hmm its not like they let you take your own cart to the course plus I dont golf anymore. I know, I can sell it and add it to the Challenger fund. Anyone wanna buy a nice golf cart ?? Place your offer now, LOL, cause they said I would probably win it..... least thats what the guy offering the FREE, haha, vacations said.

Well Im gonna be about done.... but I did wanna touch on something else which is this damn Roush Mustang and the mystery wheels. As you know I posted a picture about the wheels im trying to find for this guys car. Searching high and low, asking people for help... nutting. Not a fricken thing. Until................... yesterday. As I walked in my shop to do something (very little if you remember) I passed a box, one of many, that had cars in it. Some of these boxes have junk cars, some have cars that I collected and have been relegated to the parts bins.

So... one of the things I started collecting early on was Jaguar memorabilia. See I love Jaguars.... the cars.... have had the luck to own 4 (74 XKE, 78 XJS, 89 XJ6, 94 XJ12). Yes luck, since most think if you own one you need two since one is always in the shop. Well that was never the case with me so.... I love them...... still to this day, though not the new ones since they look like the everycar, something the blends in with every other car.

Anyway.... I have Jaguar items both large and small. Posters, literature, diecast, bla bla bla. I collected alot of different scale Jags and one of particular interest is the XK180. These are never made in real life but I always liked the retro XKE lines. Since im strange like this I ended up collecting the car in 1/18 scale, 1/24 scale and 1/32 scale and while walking past the box these were in I shouted out "Holy Guacamole Dip Batman!" there are my wheels. Yep...... well almost...... like 85-90% correct. I said ....... hell ive been searching for months and they were right here the whole time. Mind you the spokes and rivets are pretty damn correct. The lugs line up with the spokes and his line up between but hey beggers can be choosers so off then came, some backside mounting rework and a couple shots of chrome spray and Boo Ya!! Pretty damn close to correct. So I was a happy camper..... now I can finally finish that car and get it outta here. Thank God Turkey day is coming, being alone can be a blessing sometimes since I might actually be able to get some work done without everyone, there bother (Douchebag boys) and advertisers buggin me all day.

ok, im out..............
