Additional Thursday Ramblings.......

So..... everyone knows that I use pictures of the persons real car in order to replicate it the best I can. In some cases its as simple as, heres my Ford Mustang, paint it Windevil Blue and thats it. In others I have to have pictures. But...... in some cases.... even the simplest projects can have problems.

Case in point.....

I have this nice customer from NY..... nice women...... typical Xmas present customer. Wants a 70 Chevelle done like her boyfriends. So I ask if she has pictures and she says no its stored in garage on a lift. Im like, ok let me ask a few questions. First off of course is color..... she says its Black..... so I say, have you tried Exact Detail ? See.... as much as I know about this business and all the cars that have been produced I also no longer track everything since I just don't have time. So she says she did and they said only in a convertible and to call you (me). It funny.... years ago I had such a hard time getting any manufacturer to believe that I ran a real business doing this and now most all of them (Lane/Exact Detail, GMP, Hwy 61, Supercars and others) will send people to me if they cant supply the car. Guess it just takes time to build those alliances.

Anyway..... I said ok, so its Black with what color stripes, she says White.... cowl induction? Shes like, whats that... so I ask her if there was a little flipper section on the hood that raises up with the car is going fast, LOL..... she confirms. What you guys don't know also is how I have to talk to women in relation to men about projects. Its a whole different world.

So.....I ask what motor is in the car and she cant really remember so I ask what the number was on the fender under the SS..... did it say 454 or 396..... she says it starts with a 3... bingo its a 396, LOL. I ask her if there is a 4 sad or a automatic...... she say automatic. Im like ok........ interior color, she says Black.... so the last question is what kind of wheels are on the car...... shes pauses and says, shiny ones, LOL. I ask if the car is stock and she says yes. I ask if the wheels have 5 spokes in chrome with black behind them...... she pauses and I then ask if it has really shiny ones with little slot type holes around it. Shes says the shiny one.... so I go with rally wheels.

I write the contract.... pretty standard stuff.... Lane 70 Chevelle, repaint, restripe..... rebadge for a 396, wheel swap to rallies. Off goes the contract and back it comes...... the car gets painted and striped and the wheel swap (Lane cars so suck to do wheel swaps on sometimes) and boom where done. So I shoot a couple, dry assembly, pics and send them off to her.

Here is where pictures come in handy... first off the wheels are wrong...... nope not rallies, but 5 spokes... ugh, I wasted all that time for nothing. Then she says..... his car has a bench seat.... im like WTF... with the automatic on the column. UGH!!!!!! so.... of course it's all good except !!!!! only one 70 Chevelle comes with a bench seat.... the Street Heat version. Well now I have to buy a whole car for the seat im thinking..... then swap the wheels back.....PITA..... and create the column shifter.... not a problem but something I didn't account for.

See..... as much as it is her fault for not making it clear nor sending pictures I too am at fault in assuming it was the standard bucket seat interior. So..... I put in my call to Lane..... since Eric is busy with other things I cant get him and well Cynthia had the baby so shes not there so I have to talk with Mario...... great guy but im thinking I always have Cyn taking care of me when I need something so am I going to be able to get some kinda deal here on a Chevelle ? Well...... I don't know what I got but .... after a short on hold Mario says you will have your seat... maybe a car...... it will leave today.... don't worry about it.  Wow...... see it pays to have business relationships in this industry.

I recently asked Mark at GMP if they still had any of there mini lite wheel sets and he said nope......... but let me see what I can find. Upon receiving the other things I ordered from them I have a baggie with 2 sets of mini lites. No charge..... just tossed them in. How sweet is that.....maybe as sweet as what Lane did ... or when I got a customer car shipped right to me from Supercars that had paint damage on it and I couldn't use it because I was only striping the car, Jim sent me another one..... then said just keep the damaged one... its ok. Yeah...... I would be dancing if I was a collector but as a modifier it was more like... whoo hoo, another sample project car ...... hehe, life is good.

Oh yeah.. so the Chevelle will be fixed and shipped next week. For the record this is EXACTLY why I do the dry assembly... guess I am smarter then a rock, LOL.

Im out.....

Interesting ramblings, John! Much truth here as well. I don't know how you find the time to mod and mess with a daily log, though. Regardless, it is humourous and of interest....I'll be checking in from time to time.

    Regards,
    John Lindsay
