Weekend rambling......

Well.... this is more of a, I guess Im not that true posting than anything.

So...... Im not sure how other people are but im not a rich man..... well rich in cash.... I have been, didn't make my life any fuller but thats that. Anyway...... I love Mopars...... I tell people the blood that runs through me is Mopar Blue. I have had so many different Mopars it would take at least an hour to count them and yes Minivans and PT Cruisers count, LOL.

Well.... about a week ago I got the Barrett-Jackson All Access magazine listing all the cars that will be auctioned off in January. Well all the cars already registered that is. Its a nice 80+ page full color magazine... and most of the pages have 20 cars on them. I don't know if any of you have ever seen this but its a plethora of cars all years all kinds.  So, as we men are we, if we are car guys, have magazines around the house to view when were bored or in some cases busy doing manly duties, LOL.

This brings me to my funny but interesting observation in regard to my Mopar loyalty. As I view each page and all the cars I often use the "what it" thought process. So..... Im curious if anyone else does too. This is the, what if I was rich....... which car would I choose to buy. So..... I then scan the page of cars and trucks and eliminate the ones I could care less about and pick the one or ones I really just like. I then figure out what one really appeals to me...... geeze do I have too much time on my hands, LOL. I think I need to go to Mexico and buy a wife then she can fill my bordom with chores, LOL.

While panning through page after page of vehicles I come to realize that my blood is not really Mopar Blue but maybe just Blue.......since it seems I have some Ford in me. Now that's not that big a deal but what is I have found is my ...... not so deep love of GM products. Sorry to all my GM loving customers but..... it seems to be true based on my likes and dislikes from this magazine. Mind you there are MANY nice GMs being auctioned off at BJ's..... but there are so many other cooler cars that I just wouldn't spend my hard earned(fantasy) money on them, LOL.

Lets take this example of a page..... these are the vehicles listed. I know pictures would help but oh well.

1959 Chevy 3100 P/U
1969 Z-28 Camaro Pace Car
1958 Impala Convertible
1967 Nova big block
1932 Ford 5 window coupe
1967 Camaro coupe
1962 Ford Country Squire Wagon
1970 Chevelle SS 396
1971 Torino Cobra
1968 Firebird Coupe
1941 Ford Deluxe
1966 Caprice big block
1930 Ford 2 dr
1955 Chevy Nomad
2004 Explorer show truck
1966 Nova SS

So you know these are all like new clean cars and some have been slightly modified. The show truck is over the top. So....... with this list of vehicles its easy to see how you can choose a GM product. I mean 66 big block Caprice, oh yeah...... all original 4 spd, same color as the Ertl diecast release a couple years ago. Dog dish hubcaps, redlines and all or the 69 Pace Car.... I mean its an original autographed by Mario Andretti in 69. But wait....... the 58 Impala convertible........ with skirts and a continental kit in Cay Coral. Sweet sweet sweet cars...... all of which I wouldn't buy if it was my money. Now notice there isn't a Mopar in the bunch so thats not a problem....... but what car do I choose? The 62 Ford Country Squire wagon....... yep.... something about that big fake wood sided tank that just appeals to me. Yeah I know WTF your thinking I must be an idiot but hey its what I like.

OK.....I could go on and on about other pages and other cars..... like the 53 Mercury Monterey wagon, the 54 Packard Caribbean Convertible, 87 Porsche Slant Nose coupe and any 60-62 T-bird listed. Yes there are some Mopars I would choose. Goldberg's 70 Hemi Challenger convertible, 70 Hemi Orange V code Challenger, 71 Curious Yellow 340 Cuda, a couple 69 Road Runners and one cool 2003 PT Cruiser custom convertible.

But........ of all the cars listed in this magazine the one I would buy if I had all the money I needed would be the 1963 Ford Thunderbird Fastback "Italien" Concept Car. Built by Ford and displayed at the 64 Worlds Fair.  Yep thats the one....... even with all the Jaguar "British Racing Green" in me.... and my love of the XJ220 I would choose that Ford.

Weird how we are...... how we think we are and what if given the ability to choose anything what really stirs the blood in the veins. So I wonder how you guys look at things..... am I just whacked or should I change my love to Ford now and am I out of Mother Mopars House of Hemis club, LOL.

Oh well....... time to assemble some cars.

OK....... im out

John, you can't go wrong with a big block 4 speed, but the 67 Nova was one of the nicest looking cars produced in the decade, along with the 64/65 Chevies, and the 69 Camaro (a me too car) but great looking. Station Wagon, I would prefer a 70 Vista Cruiser. As for the Nomad, make it a 56 and I would be all over it. A 32 Ford has the heart and soul of every Hot Rod built as a direct desendent, it is the original Hot Rod hands down. A 70 Chevelle was the nicest looking of all the Chevelles IMHO. No for the Creme of the Crop, I have to agree on the Thunderbird Concept. Talk to you soon

Hey john, I remember that Thunderbird. What a nice ride. My problem too with those catalogs is that you can't just narrow it down. Fun thinking about the lotto ---

As for the 67 Nova being one of the nicest looking cars in the decade, DB II, I beg to differ. That car would not even be on my top 100 of pretty good looking cars LOL. I had a partner with one who drove that wreck through the 80's. Probably still has it. Maybe its just the combined memories, but I always thought that was one of the ugliest cars I ever saw. Even when there was not much out there during that decade that was much better.

Incidentally, DB II, my comment was not intended to belittle your aesthtic preferences, debate your choices or indicate anything was wrong about your passions. I'm simply expressing that there are preferences in this hobby, and one man's pretty princess is another man's heifer. It's all good. I bet there are cars I am wild about that would make you up-chuck your cookies. I won't name them in an act of humanity, therefore.
