The slow road back to normal.......
Well...... at least I feel a little better today and might actually change the voice message from the one that says were closed till the 21st, LOL.
So... I did get a chance to clean up the shop from the whirlwind that was pre Barrett-Jackson. Nice to actually see the counter again, LOL. Its also time to get back to the real stuff and get some customers cars out.
This game plan didn't unfold as I expected with my putting in way too may hours on the RJC project and leaving way too many CDR projects just sitting. Its all good thought and over the next couple weeks should be able to get caught up. Filling the RJC orders shouldn't be a problem as everyone at BJ's was told its a 4 week build time so were in good shape there. My partner isn't real hands on so 95% of the build has to be done by me. Again.... not a problem given the deliver time so my primary focus will be back on CDR.
I was looking over the paper today and see where BJ's sales numbers where down over 20% compared to last year. I can attest to that.....since we had some huge screens to watch the cars on I noticed alot of the custom built and Mopar pieces selling for alot less than expected. The vendor next to us, his friend owned the custom 70 Dart that went off late Saturday and while he had 200K+ invested he thought the car would bring close to 150K.... so he could cash out.... but he bought his car back as it only brought 51K. Yeah..... with a no reserve auction you can win and loose. He lost...... but in the end at least got the car back. Though it did cost him the 10% seller and 8% buyers commission to see what the market thought of his car. Thats an expensive lesson I would say.
On another note though... according to BJ's they had record attendance. Apparently some 280K people passed through the doors. This is quite interesting since all the vendors who have done the show years previous kept telling me that there were less people here this year. Hmmmm...... wonder whos fibbing, the people who deal with the people or the person/company putting on the dog and pony show ?
Here are a couple little highlights....... Reggie Jackson stopped by the booth... loved the Cuda, didn't buy one though, cheap bastard,LOL. Jay Leno strolled by but had a group with him...... not sure he even saw what we had...... man that guys face is huge... almost gross in my opinion, but thats me. I talked in depth with a major named car builder about a few projects. One for him based on one of his unique builds and one for me based on bring the Concept Cuda to life. I also have 2 other real car builders in the mix whom I will be discussing the real Concept Cuda with in the future.
For the first time in my life I had to actually autograph posters......... this was not something I felt confortable with at all. Im just a guy building cool cars..... but..... once people stopped by, saw my Cuda then went the saw the real Concept Cuda the design guys built that got auctioned off for $140K) they came back to either tell me how great mine looked, shook my hand or asked for an autographed poster. Was cool either way I guess. THe only person who really didn't like my version of the Cuda was the actual guy who bought the real version. Go figure huh ?
OK...... I need to get moving.... so I will add more tomorrow.
Im out........
