Thursdays Flaming good times
OK.......maybe not all flaming and I better watch how I use that line but still it (Wednesday) was a good day for paint work. So lets review if we can what took place.
After some more redo's on the Elke masking I finally, late yesterday afternoon, had it ready for color. The flames on this car are primarily light Silver fading to a darker Silver. This means mixing the light color first then mixing a dark version ....... yep, 2 colors to make 3. So once ready I had to change out my gun tip to a smaller one so I didn't cover the whole masked area in one shot. I use a 5 tip (wider) when painting and clear coating since it gives me the best coverage at the pressure I shoot at. The 3 tip is more fine and of course a 1 is even finer but in this case not what I need to use.
So once the Silver is mixed, harder added, fish eye eliminator added and reduced for the gun I set out to shoot. I spray across the nose and up the finders a little as you can see by the pictures below. I then remove my paint jar and mix in some of the dark Silver..... not a lot but enough to make a change. Now ts back to blowing another coat over the middle of the hood and doors and again....... once done it's back to adding more dark Silver to the paint jar.
Now on the car this is a slight variance so here too that is taken into consideration and upon mixing the final color I test it to the sample provided and its close enough for me so off I go to shoot the final coat. This of course is laid more towards the ends of the flames and really just continues the slight color change.

OK....... now you get the idea..... and the fading is more noticeable in the top picture. This of course is still just the base flame. There will be some fine detailing around some of the edges and some of the flames will be touched up for a more accurate look , then the highlight color will be added along with the other accent color to the tips of the flames. We are getting close but still at least a couple hours away from being ready for clear.
So...... now on to the 34 ford. You will see by these pictures what I meant about laser stripes..... heck I don't know what you call them but they were 4 color and not 3 as I thought. This again was a trick only in that I had to mix 3 colors to shoot 4. See the Red to Orange didn't look right when I mixed it after shooting the Red so I had to free mix the Orange on its own. Then I had to shoot some stand alone yellow and mix that down with white for the ends. Wait that is 4 colors, LOL, no wonder it took at long as it did.
Well you can see by the bad picture of his car that I took a picture of that its pretty much dead on. Yes it was a good painting day here. Now I just need to paint the flames on the other 34 and the under hood flames on a Vette I have and I will be My Flame........ oh wait, lets change that, LOL, I'm NOT GAY, LOL, so lets call it Mr Custom Paint, LOL. Hell, lets just call it........ me doing my job, LOL. Man that got weird for a minute didn't it ?

Well , other than what you see here which did take the majority of the day the only other things I have to report are ANOTHER magazine ad salesman telling me how my ads in his mag will make the phone ring off the wall, LOL. Again I said send me a media kit and I will look at it. I advertised with them about a year ago and didn't really get enough feedback for it to be a viable magazine but yanno I might turn this into an article type deal, hmmmmm..... I need by business adviser to tell me what he thinks, LOL, when he can, LOL.
Also talked to a new customer yesterday about a couple projects he wants done and it looks like he will be getting some space on a shelf in the project closet. Now I just need a couple more people in that same vain and I might be able to buy this 500K house, LOL, NOT!
OK ..... I'm out !

Hey John . . . . you're quite the flamer . . . OOOPPPSS . . . . that didn't sound quite right.
In all seriousness, those Elky flames are amazing. Excellent job on the '34 also. You're right . . . it's dead on!
I laughed hard at yesterday's rant and was wanting more today but you let us down.
Glad to hear that more customers are coming your way. They must be heading south for the summer!!! LOL!!!!
Later!

I just got a look at the laser stripes you laid out on my 34 Ford. They look GREAT! When I had my car done I thought about having flames too. I wanted something different from the California Kid flames or The Eliminator graphics. I can't wait to see how the rest of the car looks when it's put together sitting on the three spoke wheels. Keep up the good work.
